Theme change affects entire desktop, as threatened

Terminal, editor, wallpaper. Nobody escaped.

A routine visit to the theme menu has resulted in a coordinated desktop. The user had expected to change the wallpaper and spend the next two hours fixing everything else.

Instead, the terminal and editor joined in. The bar followed. The result was described as “quite nice, actually,” a statement the user later asked to withdraw.

An incident on a Tuesday

The incident has raised difficult questions about a folder containing several years of carefully collected colour schemes. It remains on disk, mostly for sentimental reasons.

The change was made on a Tuesday, which the user considers significant. “This is usually a Saturday activity. You need time for the terminal, then the editor, then finding the one application that insists on a different background.” Tuesday had been set aside for actual work.

By the time the user reached for their colour-picker tool, most of the anticipated tasks had disappeared. The wallpaper was appropriate. The text was readable. The bar was not making an unrelated aesthetic statement. A small handwritten checklist now contains several crossed-out items and a question mark.

The screenshot leaves the group chat

An attempt to improve matters by selecting a second theme produced a second coordinated desktop. This was initially treated as a coincidence. A third selection made that explanation difficult to maintain.

The user then took a screenshot “just to document the issue” and posted it to a group chat. Two people asked for the theme name. A third said it looked lovely. Within the hour, the user was giving advice to someone else about a matching wallpaper.

Friends describe this as a familiar progression: reluctant curiosity, several theme changes, a screenshot, and finally referring to a colour palette by name in ordinary conversation. “He said the restaurant was very Gruvbox,” one reported. “We were trying to order soup.”

No binding commitment to green

The complaints desk wishes to clarify that enjoying a colour scheme is not a binding commitment. It remains possible to change it, make your own, or close the theme menu entirely. We are informed that some people even keep the same theme for weeks.

No configuration files were harmed during our investigation. One afternoon was recovered for other purposes, although it was subsequently spent looking at community themes. Freedom is a complicated thing.

Readers can reproduce the alleged problem on our Themes page. Changing the colours here only changes this website. Your config files are safe from our editorial team.

From the unofficial complaints desk. This report is fiction; the enthusiasm that inspired it is harder to explain away.
