Changing the theme
For when everything already matches, but you want it to match differently.
Start with the supplied themes
Choose a theme from the Omarchy menu and let the coordinated defaults do their thing. Try a light one in daylight or a darker one in the evening. Neither choice needs to become a personality.
Look at some actual text while you choose. A dramatic screenshot is not always the desktop you want to stare at while reading an error message at half past four. Open the editor, open the browser, and see whether the colours stay comfortable when the wallpaper is no longer doing most of the work.
Neither a colour scheme nor a desktop is required to become your entire personality.
Try the colours here
Our Themes page changes this website and its desktop preview together. Press T to cycle through the five included palettes. The selection follows you between pages. It does not change your operating system.
You can change your mind repeatedly. The website will not issue a bill after your fifth switch, and selecting Gruvbox does not require you to buy a brown jumper. If you prefer the first theme after trying the rest, you have learned something. Try not to describe the process as wasted time while opening the picker again.
Then make your own
The official themes directory and manual are the places to look when you want more choices or want to create something yourself. This is where the weekend of tinkering can return, if you miss it.
One of the nicer consequences of a theme community is that somebody else has probably pursued an idea you would never have considered. Try a few. Read how they were made. Share your own if you make something you like. A screenshot and a useful link can be a perfectly respectable contribution to another person’s afternoon.
Know when you are done
You are done when you can read comfortably and the computer feels pleasant to use. This may take one selection. It may take an evening. There is no universally correct number of accent colours hiding at the bottom of the directory. If you notice yourself comparing two greens that only differ when placed directly beside each other, perhaps open the project you came here to work on. The greens will wait.
